Correlation of clinical findings with the muscle and nerve biopsy pathology.

Collaboration with fellows and attendings in various clinical departments and research scientists on clinical and basic science research.


Brief Biography

Dr. Blaivas received her M.D. from the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute in 1961 and her Ph.D. from the USSR Academy of Medicine Brain Institute, Moscow in 1968. From 1967 through 1978 Dr. Blaivas held research positions at the USSR Academy of Medicine Brain Institute, the Institute of Morphology and Ecology of Animals, and other Institutes in the USSR. She came to the United States in 1978 and engaged in pathology training at the University of Michigan. She joined the Department of Pathology Faculty at the University of Michigan in 1985, where she has clinical and research expertise in the diagnosis of brain, skeletal muscles and peripheral nerve diseases.

Dr. Blaivas is often a speaker at continuing medical education events and specialty conferences and collaborates widely with clinical neurologists, rheumatologists, internists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, gynecologists, and basic scientists. In addition, Dr. Blaivas serves on the Medical School Admissions Committee.
