Brief Biography Dr. Murphy received her undergraduate degree from Newton College of the Sacred Heart, Newton, Massachusetts in 1970, her M.A. (Medical Illustration) from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland in 1972. She then earned her Ph.D. degree in the Department of Anatomy at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan in 1979. She was awarded her M.D. degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1990. Dr. Murphy was then awarded a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from 1990-1992 at the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. She then took a residency in Anatomic Pathology, at the University of Michigan, from 1992-1994. Dr. Murphy was an Instructor in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Anatomy at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, from 1972-1982. She joined the faculty of the Division of Ophthalmology, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, East Lansing, Michigan, and served as an Instructor during 1983-1984 and Assistant Professor in 1985. She joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan as a Research Investigator in 1994. She was made an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan and Staff pathologist in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, VA Medical Center in 1997. The major research interests for Dr. Murphy include the role of vascular endothelial cells in disease including inflammation, autoimmune disease and cancer. |
