Brief Biography Dr. Pierson received his undergraduate degree, his M.S. in Microbiology, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology/Immunology in 1964, 1967, and 1972, respectively, all from the University of Michigan. Dr. Pierson has served as the Director of the Burn Center Laboratory in the Department of Surgery and at the present time, in addition to his clinical responsibilities, is Director of the Clinical Microbiology Research Program in the Clinical Microbiology/Virology laboratories. Dr. Pierson has been active in the American Society for Microbiology, especially in the Michigan branch, serving as both treasurer and president. In addition, Dr. Pierson is, at the present time, a governing board member of the South Central Association for Clinical Microbiology. He also serves as program chairman for the Tri-County Clinical Microbiology Association of southeastern Michigan. Dr. Pierson has been a faculty member at the University of Michigan since 1971, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology since 1982. His major clinical and research interests deal mainly with the clinical evaluation of new antimicrobials and the application of molecular diagnostic methods for use in a clinical laboratory setting. |
