Brief BiographyDr. Schnitzer earned his undergraduate degree at New York University in 1954 and his M.D. from the University of Basle Medical School, Basle, Switzerland in 1958. He carried out his internship in the Baltimore City Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland from 1958-1959, then his residency in the Department of Pathology, Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. from 1959-1963. During this residency, he served as an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow from 1961-1963. The following three years, 1963-1966, Dr. Schnitzer was a pathologist in the Hematopathology Branch of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. Dr. Schnitzer joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan in 1966 as an Instructor. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1967, Associate Professor in 1970, and to Professor of Pathology in 1974. Since 1978, Dr. Schnitzer has been the Director of the Clinical Hematology Laboratory in the University Hospital and Director of Hematology. Dr. Schnitzer was a founding member of the Society for Hematopathology, served as its President from 1991-1992, and remains as a member of the Executive Committee. His major clinical interests include diagnostic hematopathology and the application of ancillary techniques to the diagnosis of lymphomas and leukemias. |
