Surgical Pathology Diagnostic Services

     

A full range of anatomic pathology diagnostic services are available in the Division of Anatomic Pathology. State-of-the-art technology and active research programs assure that the most sophisticated diagnostic modalities are available. Techniques include frozen section and fixed tissue light microscopy, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent staining and cell morphometry. Information regarding special areas of expertise are listed below.

Breast Pathology - Celina Kleer, M.D., Peter Lucas, M.D., Ph.D., and Daniel Visscher, M.D. are specialists in this diagnostic area of surgical pathology.

Bone Pathology
- David Lucas, M.D., Professor, is our specialist in this diagnostic area of surgical pathology.

Cardiac Pathology - David Gordon, M.D., Professor is the primary specialist for cardiac biopsies.

Dermatopathology - This service provides expertise in all areas of dermatopathology, including melanoma, cutaneous oncology, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, connective tissue disease, and alopecia. Faculty inlcude: Lori Lowe, M.D., Professor (Director); Douglas Fullen, M.D., Associate Professor, Linglei Ma, M.D., Assistant Professor, and Stephen Olsen, M.D., Assistant Professor.

Electron Microscopy - this service is directed by Paul Killen, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor

Endocrine, Thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pituitary, islets - cases are referred primarily to Thomas Giordano, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor.

Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pathology - is supported by the following group of pathologists: Henry Appelman, M.D., M.R. Abell Endowed Professor; Joel Greenson, M.D., Professor and Barbara McKenna, M.D., Associate Professor.

Genitourinary Pathology - specialists in this diagnostic area include Rajal Shah, M.D., Assistant Professor and Lakshmi (Priya) Kunju, M.D., Assistant Professor.

Gynecologic Pathology - Kathleen Cho, M.D. , Professor; and Richard Lieberman, M.D., Assistant Professor provide expertise for this diagnostic service.

Head and Neck Pathology - Jonathan McHugh, M.D., provides expertise in this specialty area of surgical pathology.

Neuropathology - Faculty on this service provide expertise in all areas of this diagnostic specialty including brain, central nervous system, peripheral nerve, skeletal muscal and nerve. This group inlcudes: Mila Blaivas, M.D., Associate Professor, Ph.D.; Andrew Lieberman, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor and Paul McKeever, M.D., Ph.D. , Professor (Director).

Opthalmic Pathology - cases are primarily reviewed by Victor Elner, M.D., Ph.D. Professor; and Andrew Flint, M.D., Professor.

Pediatric Pathology - Robert Ruiz, M.D., Assistant Professor, is our specialist in this diagnostic area.

Pulmonary Pathology - Andrew Flint, M.D., and Jeffrey Myers, M.D. provide expertise in this surgical pathology diagnostic area.

Renal Pathology - This diagnostic service is supported by Paul Killen, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor and Kent Johnson, M.D., Professor.

Soft Tissue Pathology - cases are referred primarily to David Lucas, M.D., Associate Professor.
