Blood Bank cannot accept the new plastic red top tubes as they contain an additive. These tubes can be idenitified by the blue diagonal stripes on the label and the rough bottom of the tube where the plastic mold attached to the tube.

Draw One PINK and one 15 mL Red tube for

ABID

Continue to Draw a Red Top Tube for

Donath-Landsteiner Test or when specifically requested for special studies

Pink Tubes contain EDTA and must be mixed by inversion 8 to 10 times
Order of draw - PINK and Purple together
Use this tube for adult and pediatric patients (you may collect less from pediatric patients :

> 12 to adult 6 mL

5-12 years 5 mL

1-5 years 3 mL

0-1 years 2 mL (about 1 inch of blood in the tube)
