Brief Biography

Dr. Elenitoba-Johnson received an M.D. from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria. He completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology from 1991-1995 at Brown University School of Medicine, Providence, Rhode Island, serving as Chief Resident from 1992-1994. Following residency training, he completed a Hematopathology Fellowship at NCI, the National Institutes of Health (1995-1997).

He was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Anatomic Pathology at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center in July of 1997 and was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2003. He served as Assistant Director of Hematopathology at the University of Utah (1997-2006), and as Medical Director of the Molecular Hematopathology Section (1997-2006) and the Proteomics Section (2001-2006), Associated and Regional University Pathologists, University of Utah. He also served as Director of the Fellowship Training Program in Molecular Genetic Pathology at the University of Utah from 2003-2006.

Dr. Elenitoba-Johnson has been the recipient of a number of awards including the American Society of Investigative Pathology Scholarship in 1993; the Outstanding Graduating Resident Award from Brown University in 1995; the Society for Hematopathology Pathologist in Training Award in 1998, the Outstanding Teaching Award in Anatomic Pathology, University of Utah (1999 and 2003) and the Ramzi Cotran Young Investigator Award from the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology in 2006. He is a member of a number of professional societies including the American Society of Hematology, American Society for Investigative Pathology, United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists and the Association of Molecular Pathologists, and has published numerous abstracts and papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Elenitoba-Johnson is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology.

Dr. Elenitoba joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology in September 2006 as Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Translational Pathology. In September 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Professor.
