Brief Biography

Dr. Giacherio received his undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University in 1974, after which he attended graduate school at the University of Illinois, from which he earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1980. He then went to the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota from 1980-1982 for a Postdoctoral Fellowship.

In 1982, Dr. Giacherio came to the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan as an Instructor, and was promoted to Assistant Professor of Pathology and 1986. Since 1985, he has been the Director of the Chemistry Laboratory at the University Hospital, and, since 1993, the Coordinator and Technical Director of Ancillary Site Testing for the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Dr. Giacherio's clinical and research interests are centered on clinical biochemistry. They include the assessment of myocardial injury using serum markers, the evaluation of risk factors for coronary artery disease, and all aspects of point-of-care testing.

Pathology, Special and General Chemistry, and clinical biochemistry.

 

Research Interests
