Brief Bibliography:

Dr. Lucas received a Ph.D. in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics (1992) and an M.D. (1996) from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee which he attended as a member of the Vanderbilt Medical Scientist Training Program. He completed residency training in the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan from 1996-1999, including training as a fellow in Surgical Pathology. While at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Lucas received the Most Outstanding Medical Student Award for 1994 from the National Institutes of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases and for the period 1992-1994 received a Molecular Endocrinology Training Fellowship. He also served as a student representative to the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) Advisory Committee.

Dr. Lucas initiated post-doctoral training in the research laboratory of Gabriel Nunez, M.D. and after accepting the position of Lecturer in 2001, continued his collaborations with Dr. Nunez and his research staff with the support of a K08 grant. In 2004, Dr. Lucas was promoted to Assistant Professor and opened his own laboratory, a joint effort with Dr. McAllister-Lucas in the division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Lucas became an Associate Professor in 2011 and his current research efforts are supported by multiple R01 awards from the National Institutes of Health.

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Lucas provides diagnostic support in the area of breast pathology to the Surgical Pathology Unit in the Division of Anatomic Pathology. He also serves as the Assistant Director of the Pathology Residency/Fellowship Training Program. Dr. Lucas is board certified in Anatomic Pathology.
