Brief Biography:
Dr. Myers received a B.A. in Biology (summa cum laude) from Concordia
College in Moorhead, Minnesota (1977), and an M.D. from Washington University
School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri (1981). He completed residency
training in the Department of Pathology at Washington University School
of Medicine, Barnes and Affiliated Hospitals from the period 1981-1984.
During the period 1983-1984, Dr. Myers completed an American Cancer Society
Regular Clinical Fellowship in the Division of Surgical Pathology, Barnes
and Affiliated Hospitals. From July 1984 through June 1985, he completed
fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Pulmonary Pathology at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham. Upon completion of training, he joined the faculty
of the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham
as an Assistant Professor. He has been the recipient of numerous honors
and awards including the North Dakota State Medical Association Award,
Alpha Omega Alpha, Mayo Distinguished Clinical Award, and the Joanne Vandenberge
Hill Award & William O. Russell Lectureship in Anatomical Pathology
from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
In 1989, he
accepted a position at the Mayo Clinic as Senior Associate Consultant
in Surgical Pathology. In 1990, he was appointed Assistant Professor at
Mayo Medical School, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1991 and Professor
in 1996. While at Mayo, he also served as Chair, Section/Division of Surgical
Pathology (1992-1993); Chair, Division of Anatomic Pathology (1993-2002).
Dr. Myers is a member of a number of professional societies including
the College of American Pathologists, Arthur Purdy Stout Society, United
States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the American Thoracic Society.
He has served as an invited speaker nationally and internationally on
over 250 occasions and has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed scientific
journals, abstracts, and chapters.
In January 2006, Dr. Myers joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology
as the A. James French Professor of Diagnostic Pathology and Director,
Division of Anatomic Pathology. He is board certified in Anatomic Pathology. |
