Congratulations to Marcin Osuchowski, D.V.M., Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow in
the Remick Lab:
Dr. Osuchowski was awarded the Young Investigator Award at the SHOCK
Society 29th Annual Conference on Shock in Broomfield, Colorado June 3-6
for his presentation, "Sepsis: Always in MARS".
Work from the research laboratory of Peter
A. Ward, M.D., Godfrey D. Stobbe Professor, "Generation
of C5a in the absence of C3: a new complement activation pathway",
appears in the June 2006 issue of Nature Medicine.
Arul M. Chinnaiyan, M.D., Ph.D., S.P. Hicks Endowed Professor of Pathology
has been selected for a 2006
Clinical Scientist Award in Translationational Research from the Burroughs Wellcome
Fund. Selection for this award is based on scientific excellence and the
potential for translation of results into the clinical setting. This award covers
a five year period beginning 1 July 2006.
Congratulations to
Christine Freeman, Doctoral Candidate in Pathology and the recipient of
a Ph.D. in Pathology. Christine performed her research in the laboratory of
Stephen Chensue, M.D., Ph.D., and successfully defended her doctoral thesis,
"Understanding the Functional Role of CCR4 and CCR8 in Type-1 and Type-2
Granulomatous Immune Responses" on Monday, April 24, 2006.
Congratulations to Brian
Rudd, Doctoral Candidate in Pathology and the recipient of a Ph.D. in Pathology.
Brian performed his research in the laboratory of Nicholas Lukacs, Ph.D., and
successfully defended his doctoral thesis, "Toll-like receptor signaling
pathways that link innate and adaptive respiratory syncytial virus immune responses"
on Friday, April 14, 2006.
Scott Tomlins, Molecular and Cellular Pathology graduate student is a recipient
of a 2006-07 Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship. The Predoctoral Fellowship is one
of Rackham Graduate School's most prestigious awards and recognizes outstanding
academic accomplishments. Scott is conducting his doctoral thesis research,
"Discovery and Characterization of Recurrent Gene Fusions in Common Epithelial
Cancers", under the mentorship of Arul Chinnaiyan, MD., Ph.D.
Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan
is the winner of this year’s Benjamin Castleman Award for his paper "Recurrent
Fusion of TMPRSS2 and ETS Transcription Factor Genes in Prostate Cancer"
(Science 2005 Vol 310, 5748: 644-648). This prestigious award will be presented
to Dr. Chinnaiyan on February 14 at the 2006 United
States and Canadian Academy of Pathology Meeting in Atlanta.
Dan Rhodes, MD/PhD student in the Chinnaiyan lab, is one of the recipients of the "2006 Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award", which recognizes outstanding achievement during graduate studies in the biological sciences. Dan was 1 of 15 awardees internationally. Congratulations Dan!
