Offsite Collection:
Collect fresh random stool, rectal swab, or open wound present longer than 2 weeks. Add stool specimen to stool culture transport until liquid reaches fill line; emulsify specimen thoroughly in transport fluid. Store at room temperature and send stool in stool culture transport or swab in aerobic transport within 48 hours of collection. Indicate VRE screen on requisition.
Onsite Collection (Michigan Medicine Hospitals Only):
