Use of Microarrays to Identify Novel Genes in the Developing Kidney

We are using Affymetrix Gene Chips to analyze the patterns of gene expression in normal mutant kidneys. Micro dissection and probe amplification has facilitated the use of micro arrays for the very small amounts of embryonic tissues. Presently, we are analyzing novel genes controlled by the pax2 transcription factor that are up or down regulated in pax2 mutant kidney mesenchymal cells. The expression of a novel trans membrane receptor, that may be involved in inductive signaling is shown below.
