THYROGLOSSAL DUCT CYST/SINUS

 

 

This specimen routinely (by standard of care) includes the hyoid bone, along with varying amounts of soft tissue, with or without thyroid gland.

 

The presence of the hyoid bone must appear in the bottom line for proper diagnosis.  If no respiratory epithelium lined cyst / sinus appears in the soft tissue (NS), you must decalcify the hyoid bone and its associated tissues missed decalcify the hyoid bone and its associated tissues and submit it.

 

There may or may not be associated thyroid, chronic inflammation.

 

Dx. Neck, excision: Hyoid bone and soft tissues with thryoglossal duct cyst (sinus).
