A. James French Lecturer
		Jason L. Hornick, M.D., Ph.D. Associate Professor Harvard Medical School Director of Surgical Pathology & Immunohistochemistry Brigham and Women's Hospital Jason L. Hornick, MD., Ph,D, received a BA from Amherst College and his doctoral degrees from the University of Southern California. He trained as a resident in Anatomic Pathology and pursued subspecialty fellowships in soft tissue pathology and gastrointestinal pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he is now the Director of Surgical Pathology and Director of the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory. He is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and a consultant at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Hornick is Chair of the USCAP Abstract Review Board and Assignment Subcommittee and Chair of the CAP Immunohistochemistry Committee. He was a member of the 2012 consensus and editorial working group for the WHO Classification of Tumors of Soft Tissue and Bone. Currently a member of the Soft Tissue Sarcoma Expert Panel for the AJCC and the Sarcoma Analysis Working Group for The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), he also serves on the Test Development and Advisory Committee for Anatomic Pathology for the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Hornick serves on many editorial boards, including the American Journal of Surgical Pathology and Modern Pathology. He is a Regional Editor for Histopathology, an Associate Editor for Advances in Anatomic Pathology, and the Consulting Editor for Surgical Pathology Clinics. The author of over over 280 original published papers, review articles, and book chapters, Dr. Hornick edited the textbook, Practical Soft Tissue Pathology: A Diagnostic Approach and is an Associate Editor for Sternberg's Diagnostic Surgical Pathology. In 2012, the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists Annual Prize was awarded to Dr. Hornick and in 2014 he received the Jack Yardley Investigator Award from the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society. He teaches national and international courses on the diagnosis of soft tissue tumors, gastrointestinal pathology, and diagnostic immunohistochemistry.
Plenary Lecturers
		Teri A. Longacre, M.D. Director of Gynecologic & Gastrointestinal Pathology Stanford University Medical Center Teri A. Longacre, MD, is a Professor of Pathology and Director of Gynecologic Pathology and Gastrointestinal Pathology at Stanford University. She directs the Gynecologic Pathology and Gastrointestinal Pathology fellowship programs. Dr. Longacre is also the Director of the Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Institute Tissue Procurement Facility. Dr. Longacre has established a clinical research program that is focused on gynecologic and gastrointestinal pathology with an emphasis on diagnosis and screening of hereditary gynecologic and gastrointestinal cancer syndromes. She has published extensively in national and international journals, and has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters in gynecologic and gastrointestinal pathology. She and her husband, a private practice pathologist, have three grown children, who never fail to surprise and fascinate. She also runs...a lot.
		Jesse McKenney, M.D. Director of Surgical Pathology Cleveland Clinic Dr. Jesse McKenney is a native Texan from the Dallas/Fort-Worth area. He attended Texas A&M University where he studied learning theory and cognitive psychology. He subsequently attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, where he also began his pathology career as a post-sophomore fellow. He completed his anatomic pathology residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and gained subspecialty training in genitourinary and soft tissue pathology. He next completed a surgical pathology fellowship at Stanford University, where he focused on gynecologic pathology. Dr. McKenney has held faculty positions at the University of Arkansas and Stanford University, and is now the Director of Surgical Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic where he practices genitourinary, soft tissue, and gynecologic pathology. He has served on the Education Committee of the USCAP, and is a current member of the WHO and AJCC committees for the classification and staging of genitourinary neoplasia. He has authored or co-authored over 100 manuscripts and will be co-editor of the 11th edition of Rosai and Ackerman’s Surgical Pathology.

		Joel K Greenson, M.D. Professor of Pathology University of Michigan Dr. Greenson received both his undergraduate degree and M.D. at the University of Michigan, in 1980 and 1984, respectively. Following residency and fellowship training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Maryland, he joined the faculty at the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1990. In 1993, he joined the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan as an Assistant Professor, where he became the Director of Surgical Pathology Fellowship Program in 1995 and the Director of Surgical Pathology in 1997. He served in these positions through 2005. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 1997 and to the rank of Professor in 2003. Dr. Greenson has clinical and research interests in gastrointestinal and liver pathology. Dr. Greenson is also a past-president of the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society. 		David Lucas, M.D. A. James French Professor and Director of Anatomic Pathology University of Michigan Dr. David Lucas received his M.D. from Wayne State University in 1988. After Pathology residency training at Wayne State University (1998-1991), he spent two years as a Surgical and Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology Fellow at the Mayo Clinic (1991-1993). In 1993, he accepted a faculty position at Wayne State University, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2000, and worked there until 2003. Dr. Lucas was Course Director for the sophomore Connective Tissue Unit at Wayne State University from 1995-2003 and Director of Immunohistochemistry at the Detroit Medical Center from 2000-2003. Dr. Lucas joined the faculty of the University of Michigan of Pathology Department in 2003 and was promoted to Professor in 2006. He is an expert consultant in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. He served as Director of Immunohistochemistry from 2006-2010, Director of Surgical Pathology from 2010-2015, and Program Director of the Surgical Pathology Fellowship from 2010-2015. Dr. Lucas was appointed Director of Anatomic Pathology in December 2015. He is author of 120 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored two editions of Diagnostic Pathology of Soft Tissue Tumors (2011 and 2016), and wrote multiple book chapters and abstracts. He has given various extramural invited presentations at local, national, and international venues, and has participated as study pathologist on multiple clinical trials.
		Lauren Smith, M.D. Director of Hematopathology University of Michigan Dr. Lauren Smith received her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan Honors College with highest distinction in 1992. She spent four years working in a neurogenetics laboratory at the University of San Francisco with Dr. Nelson Freimer. For the next two years she worked as a manuscript editor for Dr. Donald Klein, a psychiatrist, at Columbia University. In 1998, she began medical school at the University of Michigan. She was awarded AOA in her junior year and was president of the UM AOA Chapter the following year. She completed her residency in anatomic/clinical pathology and fellowship in hematopathology from 2002-2007. In July, 2007 she began her faculty career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013. She was appointed Fellowship Director in 2013. She was appointed the Director of the Ethics Path of Excellence in the University of Michigan Medical School in 2013. She became the permanent Director of the Hematopathology Section in 2016. In addition, she serves as a Hospital Ethicist at UMHS.
