Activities

Our initiative also includes activities that promote community within the department. We invite all employees to take part in these activities to raise awareness and improve how we work together.

Department ART Competition

The Department of Pathology is pleased to announce an art competition to showcase the artistic talents of individuals within our Department while also promoting numerous benefits:

  • Building community efforts by allowing anyone who works within the department to participate.
  • Increasing employee wellness through creating art and appreciating the artwork done by others.
  • Creating an outlet to share and explore faculty, trainee, and staff creativity and share it with others.

This year, and potentially on an annual basis, the Department of Pathology will host an art competition where all employees can submit paintings, drawings, sculptures, digital art, collages, or other multi-media pieces, that can be hung on walls, in accordance with the theme provided. An annual theme will be selected and participants will have creative freedom to interpret the theme and represent the unique aspects of pathology and their lab work in their art.

Competition Guidelines:

  • Open to all Pathology faculty, trainees, and staff – participation is free of charge.
  • The artwork needs to be a minimum size of 8x10 with a mechanism to be hung. 
  • Multiple pieces can be submitted by any faculty, trainee, or staff – feel free to collaborate within your labs as a team, making murals or lab-material-based designs! Also, please ensure there is no patient information in your work. 
  • In an effort to anticipate how many employees will be submitting art pieces, we ask that participants register by January 5, 2024, by entering their information on this Sign-Up Sheet. Of note, late registrants WILL also be accepted.
  • The deadline to submit the original art piece is April 30, 2024; further details regarding the drop-off location for the artwork will be forthcoming. Participants will also be expected to provide a short summary of their piece as well as a digital photo of it.
  • The Wellness committee and designated delegates will select the winners and present them to department leadership for approval.
  • Categories for the competition winners will include: First Place, Honorable Mentions, and Runner-Ups.
  • Winners will have their pieces displayed physically at an approved, designated space and potentially rotated throughout locations where pathology labs exist. Select artwork and the creative process of team efforts (both winners and nonwinners) may also be displayed online on our Pathology Department website or social media.
  • Please note, the Department will not be liable for any lost, damaged, or missing artwork.
