Apheresis Team Earns National Recognition for Outstanding Patient Experience

By Anastazia Hartman | May 12

This Nurses' Week, the Department of Pathology is happy to share that our Apheresis team has been recognized as one of the top-performing clinical teams in the nation for their excellence in patient experiences. For the reporting period of April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025, the Apheresis team ranked in the 99th percentile across the nation and was one of the top two sites in Ambulatory Surgery at Michigan Medicine.

This distinction is based on patient feedback collected through Press Ganey surveys, which benchmark performance across healthcare institutions nationwide. Achieving top-quartile status signifies that the University Hospital Apheresis team is among the best in the country for delivering high-quality, compassionate care.

In recognition of this achievement, Keith Gran, Chief Patient Experience Officer, and Devin Lippert, Administrative Director of the Office of Patient Experience, will visit the Apheresis unit to celebrate the team’s success. Their visit will include a brief presentation of a commemorative memento and a team photo to honor the exceptional care being provided every day.

“There are so many wonderful things that can be said about the nurses. This is the fifth time, since November 2024, the Apheresis Nurses have been recognized for their dedication to their patients. They are an amazing team, who take pride in what they do. The second time we were presented the recognition in March 2024, one of the Nurses asked what the highest ranking could be, and the team was told 99%. The team’s response was, ‘We can beat that.’ They want to be the best, and they are the best!”, said Nicole DeVlaminck, nursing supervisor, Apheresis Procedure Unit.

This milestone supports the goals of Michigan Medicine’s strategic framework, BASE (Belonging, Accountability, Safety, and Excellence), which prioritizes exceptional patient outcomes and meaningful connections between providers, patients, and families.

Congratulations and thank you to our APU team!
