The Pathologist's Power List, released every year, recognizes individuals who are shaping the future of pathology and laboratory medicine. The 2025 honorees list is comprised of leading voices who challenge established ideas and advocate for reform. Among the honorees are Dr. Kamran Mirza, Godfrey D. Stobbe Professor of Pathology Education, Director of the Division of Education, and Co-Chair of the Patient and Faculty Advisory Committee, and Michele Mitchell, Patient Advocate and Co-Chair of the Patient and Faculty Advisory Committee.
"To be recognized on The Pathologist Power List for the eighth year is truly an honor. The real achievement belongs to the learners and colleagues who make education such a transformative force in our field," said Mirza. "My passion has always been to open doors, build pipelines, and create opportunities for the next generation of pathologists - locally and globally. This recognition is a reflection of the power of education to shape the future of pathology and, most importantly, to improve patient care everywhere."
Mirza and Mitchell work together as a pathologist and patient to bring visibility, compassion, and knowledge to those outside the world of pathology. Mitchell’s advocacy ensures that patients see the people behind the slides. Mirza’s leadership ensures that future pathologists embrace their role as communicators and collaborators. Together, their inclusion on The Pathologist Power List 2025 reflects not only their individual impact but also the larger shift reshaping the field.
"I am incredibly grateful to have been selected as one of the 10 finalists in The Pathologist ASCP Magazine Power List 2025 – Leading Voices category," said Mitchell. "Each finalist was asked to provide their thoughts on 'What needs to change
to maximize pathology’s impact on patient care, and how has your work advanced patient impact?' Being among the 10 finalists who submitted a response is a true honor and privilege! I believe I may be the first Patient Advocate given the Pathologist's Power List 2025 Award! I hold no formal power—but I have a voice. And I will keep using it until every patient sees, and every pathologist remembers, the person behind the slide."
Pathology has always been the cornerstone of diagnosis. Now, thanks to voices like Mitchell’s and leaders like Mirza, it is becoming something more: a bridge between the lab and the lives it touches.
