Department ART Competition

We are pleased to announce that the Pathology Department will be hosting another Art Competition this year to showcase the creative talents of our Pathology employees!

Click here to read about the art pieces submitted by participants from our first annual Pathology Department Art Competition held last year, themed “We are U-M Pathology.”

This year’s theme will be “The Art of Pathology,” and participants will be given creative freedom to interpret this theme and represent the unique aspects of pathology and their lab work in their art. Participants may submit paintings, drawings, sculptures, digital art, collages, or other multi-media pieces, which must also include a hanging mechanism to be hung on the walls in order to be displayed.

Also, if interested, you may click here for some ideas to view the artwork that was submitted for the 2024 Art of Pathology Competition at The Royal College of Pathologists.

Benefits of Creating Art:

  • Building community efforts by allowing anyone who works within the department to participate.
  • Increasing employee well-being through creating art and appreciating the artwork done by others.
  • Creating an outlet to share and explore faculty, learners, and staff creativity and share it with others.

Competition Guidelines:

  • All faculty, learners, and staff are invited to participate free of charge!
  • Artwork needs to be a minimum size of 8” x 10” and must include a mechanism to be hung.
  • Multiple pieces can be submitted by any faculty, learners, or staff – feel free to collaborate within your labs as a team, making murals or lab-material-based designs! Also, please ensure there is no patient information in your work.
  • Participants will also be expected to provide a short summary about their piece as well as a digital photo of it.
  • To anticipate how many employees will be submitting art pieces, we ask that participants register by entering their information on this  Google Form (Google Form instructions).
  • The deadline to submit the original art piece has been extended to Monday, June 16, 2025; further details regarding drop-off location for the artwork will be forthcoming.
  • Well-Being Committee and designated delegates will select the winners and present them to department leadership for approval.
  • Categories for the competition winners will include: First Place, Second Place, and Honorable Mention.
  • Winners will have their pieces displayed physically at an approved, designated space. Select artwork and the creative process of team efforts (both winners and non-winners) may also be displayed online on our Pathology Department website or social media.
  • Please note, the Department will not be liable for any lost, damaged, or missing artwork.
