Match Day 2025: Welcoming the Next Generation of Pathologists to Michigan Medicine

Mar 21, 2025

Every year, Match Day marks a defining moment in the journey of medical students nationwide.

Pathology is the cornerstone of modern medicine, providing critical diagnoses that guide treatment decisions across all specialties. As medical students apply for residency programs, they undergo a competitive and highly selective process, submitting applications, completing interviews, and ranking programs that align with their career goals. The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) then uses an algorithm to pair applicants with programs based on mutual preferences.

For those joining the University of Michigan’s Department of Pathology, Match Day represents the beginning of an enriching and rigorous training experience. With cutting-edge research opportunities, state-of-the-art laboratories, and a collaborative learning environment, our department is committed to shaping the next generation of leaders in pathology.

However, Match Day is not just about individual success; it is a celebration of the bright future of pathology and the contributions these new trainees will make to our field. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the students matching into pathology this year—especially those who will soon call Michigan Medicine home. We look forward to welcoming you to Ann Arbor and supporting your journey as you advance the frontiers of pathology and laboratory medicine.
