Laura Jacobus wins GME Program Administrator Excellence Award

Laura Jacobus 500.jpgWe are pleased to announce that Laura Jacobus has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 GME Program Administrator Excellence Award by the Graduate Office of Medical Education at Michigan Medicine. Awardees are nominated by colleagues and selected by a committee of their peers. This is a highly competitive award that recognizes the service, spirit, and initiative of the nominee.

Excerpts from her nomination include:

“Laura has taken the insights gained from national conferences and used them to introduce fresh ideas to our program, ensuring we stay at the forefront of best practices in graduate medical education.”

“Her empathetic nature and collaborative spirit have fostered a supportive culture within our program, enhancing both trainee satisfaction and overall morale.”

“Laura is friendly and approachable and goes out of her way to engage with the residents and faculty. She is a collaborator and a modest, empathetic leader.”

“Her focus on creating a supportive and efficient environment has directly contributed to the success of our residents and the overall strength of the program.”

Assistant Chair for Education in the Department of Pathology, Kamran M. Mirza, MD, PhD, commented on Laura’s award, “Laura Jacobus embodies the heart and soul of graduate medical education. Her warmth, professionalism, and tireless dedication have created a foundation of trust and excellence that supports our trainees and faculty every day. This recognition is so well deserved—it’s an honor to work alongside her.”

The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 22nd, at 5:00 p.m. in the Danto Auditorium.

Laura reflected on her award, “I am truly honored and humbled to have been considered for this award, let alone to receive it. This recognition is not only a reflection of my efforts but also of the support, commitment, and inspiration of those around me. I am deeply grateful for this honor, which motivates me even more to continue striving for excellence in our residency program and education department as a whole.”

As an award recipient, Laura will serve on the GME Awards Selection Committee, which will select the 2026 recipient.
