Riccardo_Valdez 500 X 500.jpgDr. Riccardo Valdez, the John G. Batsakis Professor of Pathology and Director of Clinical Pathology, has been appointed as the Ambulatory Care Clinical Chief (ACCC) for Pathology.  While he has been fulfilling the duties of the role since just before the COVID-19 pandemic, the appointment was recently formalized.

This service line and administrative appointment are part of the Diagnostic Oversight Team within the University of Michigan Medical Group (UMMG) organizational structure. The ACCCs provide content-specific operational leadership related to clinical processes and practices with an emphasis on safety, quality, timeliness, financial stewardship, and personnel development. This integral role also serves to enhance communication and collaboration among other ACCCs and leaders across the clinical enterprise, with an emphasis on the ambulatory care units.

“Among the many lessons the pandemic has taught us, two of the most important for me have been the value of a system approach to the goals we are trying to accomplish and the power of effective organizational partnerships," stated Valdez. "I look forward to using this added role to further build upon on the clinical process and operational improvement efforts we have started with other organizational leaders during the pandemic.”

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Valdez on his appointment.
