Dr. Stephanie Skala, Pathology House Officer IV, in collaboration with others in the Departments of Pathology, Biostatistics, Urology, Radiation Oncology, and the Michigan Center for Translational Pathology, have published work entitled “Programmed Death-ligand 1 Expression in Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma”.  Her work demonstrated that approximately one third of invasive primary UTUC and one quarter of all primary UTUC (invasive and noninvasive tumors) exhibited PD-L1 expression.  This finding suggests a case for additional investigation of programmed death-ligand 1-based immunotherapeutics in these upper tract urothelial carcinoma patients.
