First-year resident, William R. Perry, MD, received a 2019 Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award at the 54th Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists (ACLPS) Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah. The awards were established by the ACLPS in 1979 as a way to encourage young investigators to consider a career in academic laboratory medicine.  Perry received his award for the oral platform abstract, “Comparison of Activated Protein C Resistance with Factor V Leiden Testing by Molecular Assay,” co-authored by Dr. Steven W. Pipe, MD, and Shih-Hon Li, MD, PhD.  This study better defined the performance of the APCR assay used at Michigan Medicine for patients receiving a variety of anticoagulation therapy and will spur improvements in clinical coagulation testing for that growing patient population.
