September

Customer Service

Elizabeth Wawraszek - Administrative Assistant

"Liz saved a "chunk of time" for Dr. Jeff Jentzen and Ann Jackson, who were trying to find coverage for Dr. Jentzen by working with two faculty and switching days around to accommodate everyone"

Innovative Ideas

Tara Lilley - Microbiology/Virology

"Tara ran specimens from the frozen lysate, undiluted and diluted broths to try and find out why specimens were coming out invalid.  This helped our group by essentially ruling out reagent issues.  Without her work, we would not have been able to do this"

Above and Beyond

Jody Metski - Specimen Procurement

"Jody's search for "lost samples" on two NICU patients resulted in locating them so that tests could be performed and assisted in resolving a patient care issue!"

Creating Synergy

Kristina Martin - Specimen Procurement

"Kristina is charged with the task of replacing staff in a unit with significant turnover.  She does this as quick as she can and keeps us informed that "help is coming". This goes a long way in reducing stress and tensions!"

October

Stephanie Drewery - Surgical Pathology

Erin Loyer - Surgical Pathology

"By the patient’s own account, “being able to confront the realities of her serious disease were far better than continuing to suffer the anxiety of uncertainty”.  A reminder that on the other end of every specimen, every block, every slide and every report is not a “case” but a patient, with dreams, hopes, families and friends that idle as we do all that we can to ensure a treatment plan tailored to an accurate and timely diagnosis. "

November

Customer Service

Michelle Garrasi - Microbiology/Virology

"Michelle met a patient coming from out of town to drop off a specimen at Taubman, after directing the patient to the Medical Center through construction.  “She showed extra care and attention” which was appreciated. "

Innovative Ideas

Ellen Bassett - Microbiology/Virology

"Ellen coordinated the 0157 Chromogenic media evaluation and this evaluation is being considered for implementation as the standard media for stool cultures in the laboratory. "

Above and Beyond

Deborah Soldner - Microbiology/Virology

"Debbie’s dedication and thoroughness in checking for specimen labeling errors ensures quality in the laboratory and is demonstrates her commitment to patient care. "

Creating Synergy

Judy Nyhuis - Microbiology/Virology

"In-service tours/demonstrations on Phlebotomy/Specimen Processing for the Microbiology Laboratory provided knowledge about the specimens collected and/or handled and assists in staff knowing why 'certain things are important for us to handle the specimen and how microbiology testing is performed'"

Peggy Mahlmeister - Microbiology/Virology

"Microbiology Laboratory tours for the Phlebotomy/Specimen Processing staff in-service provided staff with “a better knowledge of what we do and why we might have certain specimen requirements".

December

Customer Service

Linda Milkey - Surgical Pathology

"Linda helps every time!  Her first words are always, "Sure, what can I do?"  That's CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Innovative Ideas

Jeff Sica - Pathology Informatics

"Jeff's form development has resulted in multiple usages, allowing faculty, residents and staff to complete work from their desktops.  The resulting time and effort savings has been remarkable.  We have received external "kudos" for several of our on-line forms!"

Above and Beyond

Mary Greene - Administrative Assistant Sr

Laura Hessler - Administrative Specialist

Laurie Quay - Administrative Assistant Int.

Angela Suliman - Administrative Assistant Sr.

"Mary, Laura, Laurie and Angie have agreed to serve as trainers for the new M-CV system for faculty. Since this will impact all faculty, their willingness to learn how to navigate this complex process and serve as trainers on behalf of the Department of Pathology is truly "above and beyond"!
