Laura Lamps, MD to join Department of Pathology and named UMHS Chief Patient Safety Officer.

Laura Lamps, MD will join the Department of Pathology as the Director of Gastrointestinal Pathology on February 1. Dr. Lamps comes from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Center where she was the Director of Surgical Pathology, Director of the Diagnostic Laboratories, and Professor and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs for Pathology. She also served as the Associate Chief Medical Quality Officer for Risk and Safety.
 
In addition to her appointment in Pathology, Dr. Lamps will serve as Chief Patient Safety Officer in the newly created University of Michigan Health System Patient Safety Office. There, Dr. Lamps and newly named Administrative Director for Patient Safety, Nicole Templeton, MHSA, BSN, RN, CPPS, will work to create a proactive patient safety program and advance the culture of patient safety.
 
Dr. Lamps received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Davidson College and her Medical Degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
